Bitter Lake
The perch factory. Wide, shallow basin where you run-and-gun the holes — find a school and the limit comes fast. Side-bonus pike on tip-ups.

Why we fish it
Bitter is what people are talking about when they say South Dakota perch fishing. Wide, shallow, and reliable — when you find a school, the floor of the shack fills up fast. We run the holes during mid-day chews and set tip-ups on the perimeter for incidental pike. Bitter is the right call for a group that wants a lot of action, not just a few big fish.
How we work it
- Small jigs tipped with waxies or spikes
- Stay mobile — drill plenty of holes and chase the school
- Tip-ups on the perimeter for pike between perch flurries
What's in there
More lakes in the rotation
And the bite moves.
Day County
